Today we’re going to talk about Dream Builder No. 3, community.
We make time for our dreams by developing a community of people with shared goals.
No matter what I do, I need a sense of belonging.
I need people with shared interests around me. That helps reduce the friction toward my dream and pull me a little bit closer to where I want to go. A rising tide lifts all ships.
Pre-Covid, I loved attending networking events and getting to know people, feeding off of their energy, connections, and wisdom and feeling like I could contribute something, too.
For the past few years I’ve been a member of a women’s networking group called Ellevate Network, which is full of ambitious women who give each other advice, connections, and support.
Some say you’re the sum of the people you hang out with. We absorb from the people around us. We absorb their habits.
I want a community that I can contribute to and experience rapid growth in.
Sometimes the community we need is within the friends we have, our friendship circle.
But more often than not, you’ll have to go out of your way to find the specific community you need based on your dreams.
As I mentioned in the previous video, for learning Malayalam I have a group that I work with. For doing push-ups I have a group where we encourage each other.
That sense of working together toward the same thing, having similar challenges and successes, helps pull me forward.
So, in chasing your dream, make sure you’re aligned with the right community that can encourage you and keep you motivated along the way.
