How to Change Your Name Pt. 1

So I’ve been googling “how to change your name” so I can finally officially become an Abraham. All the pages try to bamboozle me into buying a name-changing kit. I don’t need no stinkin’ name-changing kit! I just need to figure out what offices to go to and what documents to bring and in what order. I couldn’t find any Web sites that spelled it out for me. I’m probably just a bad googler.

Today I accomplished step 1 in Operation: Name Change. I went to the Social Security office on Lakes of 610 and was impressed by the cleanliness and organization of the place. You walk in, grab a number based on why you’re there, take a seat and wait for your name to be called. The lady at the window, Ms. Nguyen, was really nice. I showed her my driver’s license (with my maiden name) and my marriage license, and I was good to go. All successfully completed within the lunch hour. I should get the new card within two weeks.

Next step: Driver’s License. To be continued…
